Nice car,like the 64 Galo @ 1:05

forgot to add the bigest innovation from these cars was used in the heating ac business because they developed the technology to use the heat in the exhaust to heat the incomming air which allowed the exhaust heat to be manageable. that heat exchange design is probably used today. you wouldn't want someones nylons to melt from the exhaust would you P.S. this info came from a friend who worked for chrysler back in the day

what are you talking about they didn't get any beter gas mileage and didn't have good acceleration compared to the other cars of the era. By the way turbines use some metals that are very expensive and if put into production would have depleted the world supply making it more exspensive that was the real reason for there demise don't let the liberal tree hugger blur reality and blame all the problems of the world on big business etc.

bali hi in san diego it"s still open

It was scrapped because it would run on any combustible fuel, from diesel oil to purfume. The oil companies wouldn't allow that. Bell bought the rights to the engine and used them in their helicopters. With only a 1/5 of the moving parts, how expensive could the costs be?

That is a fabulous car! love the home movie atmosphere.oh my god they are going to a Tiki bar!hope they kept the mug

lets face it the motor industry fucked up and look what has happened! the turbine worked but the oil industry intervened and told them to scrap it!

The coolest part of this video is the Bali Hai Restaurant! Still out on Shelter Island, and one of my favorite places in the world to eat. "Chicken of the Gods" was on the menu way back when this movie was shot and is what I order whenever I go!!

Awesome footage!!!Chrysler desperately wanted this car to be a success.Though only 50 cars were made... only a hand few still survived. The car simply did not survive because the machining and parts cost were way too high to warrant a profitable vehicle;it had nothing to do with oil embargos or government involment like some people believe. Bottom line :if a product costs too much to make and a return on the investment is too low you don't have product to sell....period.Once again A+++ footage!!!

Thanks for posting that! Great footage! Unique.

In 1963, a Chrysler engineer drove one of the turbine cars over to Shrine Of The Little Flower Grade School on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was there in the turbine to pick up his kid from school. All of us kids went absolutely insane and we mobbed the car in the grade school parking lot. Each one of us took turns holding our hands underneath the back end of the car so the we could feel the blast of warm exhaust air blowing out from the back end. I'll never forget it. Carl Johnson

Auto and Tiki style for the price of one download! Great time capsule.

Cool, if you like this look up reminisce magazine.

Great historical footage - Thanks CaddyDady!

48.000 RPM! The Fed. government allowed the bodies (hand built in Italy by Ghia) into the country on a VISA for five or six years. Chrysler would not pay the duty if they destroyed them before the VISA expired. They could have shipped them back to Italy but as the video taken for the Federals shows, most ended up as blast furnace food between 1967 and 1969.

This is the Chrysler Turbine car that Chrysler Corporation had 50 built by Ghia in Italy in 1963. They where in a 3 year test program and handed out to ordinary families all over USA, each to drive during 3 months. Really amazing to see the film. I've seen the real thing running during the WPC Club meeting at the Chrysler Chelsea Proving Grounds in 1985. It sounds like a jet and engine is idling at 18.000 rpm! Too bad all but 11-12 cars where scrapped.

I wish they had shown the engine and sounds!

wow what a cool looking car. does anyone know anything about this model ??
