NO!! the 5.7 is obviously bigger but the 4.6 is supercharged and the cobra is supposed to have 390 horsepower but ford supposedly underrated them. the actually have around 430 hp. the 5.7 ls1 ram air or ss (in the camaro) has 335 hp but of course gm will always be on top. LTX and LSX engines will always be the mustangs worst nightmare hehe. At least they fear my 97 trans am.

Stock for stock? The biggest dependent factor is the ALL-IMPORTANT driver mod- which most will agree that the Cobra was lacking. It's more challenging to launch the IRS suspension the Cobras have, a friend switched to solid rear and with some upgrades and some squeeze ran 10.89 1/4.

Even the LT1 FBODY smoked mustangs, there wasn't a Cobra that could hang with the LT1 (stock for stock) until the '95 CobraR (more expensive) and the '96 Cobras were produced that they could hang with the LT1 (even them it was a driver's race). The LT1 straight up walked all over the Mustang GTs (even the '98 generation had trouble with the older LT1 and couldn't even compare to the LS1 stock for stock.

Anything can push 1500hp if you know how to build up the engine smart guy. Saleen is not a "production car" it's after-market, they take the "production" mustang and add the after-market accessories. You're neglecting to mention Lingenfelter and Callaway they easily put out cars that make well over 550hp. Face it, stock for stock FBODYs out-perform Mustang GTs. It wasn't until the '03 Cobra that Mustangs from the FACTORY could hang with the LS1.

Only reason they still makes mustangs is because SO many chicks buy them. Camaro/Trans Am consistently out performed the mustang. Ford had to S/C the '03 Cobra to run with the bare bones LS1.
